You’ve found 5e Jump Calculator, a tiny online tool created to fix a common D&D 5e table slowdown: jumping.
If you’ve ever paused combat to look up the exact jumping rules, argued over if that chasm is actually jumpable, or tried to reconstruct from memory how Strength and movement interact, this site is for you.
What Is 5e Jump Calculator?
5e Jump Calculator is a no-frills calculator that takes the 5e jump rules and does the math for you.
You provide basic character info—like Strength score, height, and a few relevant conditions—and the calculator instantly shows your:
Maximum long jump distance
High jump height
Maximum reach during a jump
Key distances based on the 5e rules as written
No math, no rules confusion—just clear results you can rely on.
Why I Built This Tool
This site was inspired by real table frustration.
As a Dungeon Master and player, I kept running into the same situation:
A character wants to do something cool and cinematic with a jump, the entire table stalls while we check the rules.
The 5e rules for jumping aren’t especially complicated, but they are easy to forget. I didn’t want to keep re-explaining the same rule, so I took the obvious next step: I wrote a little web app.
5e Jump Calculator began as something I used just for my home games, and then I turned it into a site so others could use it in case other tables were running into the same problem.
Under the Hood (Without the Jargon)
This tool follows the official Dungeons & Dragons 5th Edition jumping rules found in the Player’s Handbook. In simple terms, it:
Uses your Strength to set how far and how high you can jump
Considers whether you have a running start
Factors in your height and reach where appropriate
Respects the rules as written, without adding homebrew assumptions
You don’t have to memorize any of that. The calculator does the work and shows you the result that matters at the table.
How to Use It at Your Table
5e Jump Calculator is meant to be:
Fast enough to use mid-session
Clear enough for new players
Trustworthy enough for rules-focused groups
You can use it to:
Verify a jump before the roll
Design encounters with realistic jumps in mind
Resolve player stunts without bogging things down
Type in the numbers and let the calculator handle the rest. It’s meant to get out of the way, not become the focus of the session.
What’s Next?
Right now, 5e Jump Calculator is deliberately simple: it calculates jumps accurately and clearly.
In the future, I plan to:
Expand into other movement calculators
Support more edge cases and optional rules
Improve the layout and usability based on feedback
If you notice an issue, or if you want to request a feature, I’d love to hear from you. This site is built to help real tables, and your input directly guides future changes.
Thanks for checking out 5e Jump Calculator. I hope it saves you a few minutes—and a few arguments—every session.
